Believe it or not, it was Chris who came up with the term "Dirty Pop" to describe the new sound NSYNC created on their album, No Strings Attached. "I was just joking around," he recalls. "We were laying some beats in the studio one day and I said, 'We should make it real dirty.' We started laying down some dirty beats and then put some good pop hooks over the top of it. So I just started calling it dirty pop."
So just what is Dirty Pop? Dirty Pop will inevitably change and evolve over time, but here is what I noticed about the original Dirty Pop sound that's on No Strings.
Dirty Pop
trademarks:
1. Aggressive, funky or irregular
synth beat
(IE: dirty beats)
2. A
touch of classic Freestyle sound
3. Tons of
N-R-G
4. Pop hooks
The overwhelming success of the No Strings Attached album has caused other artists to try and duplicate the edgy Dirty Pop sound in their own music. The following are artists who have taken a stab at, or coincidentally have some of 'NSYNC's Dirty Pop sound:
Jennifer Lopez (J-Lo)
Eden's Crush
Jessica Simpson (her new song, Irresistible)
Dream
P!nk
Britney Spears
3LW
Mya
Backstreet Boys
