Ticket: Chris can we speak to you for one quick second? Chris Kirkpatrick from NSync is with me right now. Are you a baseball player?

Chris: No I am not, but I'm gonna pretend like I'm one today.

T: Did you ever play in high school or junior high or anything like that?

C: Yah, I played in high school. I was okay.. I just haven't played..we've played softball a bit but I haven't played baseball in forever, so I'm probably gonna hurt somebody.

T: Where are you from?

C: Florida. Originally from Pittsburgh.

T: Now, do you find it creepy that we have a guy that works on our station, he's about 36/37 years old, he's a huge fan of you guys. Is that too old to be a fan?

C: As long as he doesn't have pictures of us in his locker.

T: We don't know, we haven't been to his house.

C: You know, we've got some great fans, and like I said as long as they aren't too creepy. We've got them of all ages. Just don't be a little bit eccentric. That's a little bit much.

T: Now when it's time for you guys to reinvent, because everybody has to reinvent, I mean look at Madonna, will there a time where you guys will strap on a guitar and learn an instrument and stuff.

C: Well, it's not that we'll learn them, cuz we all play already. It's just a matter of.. it depends where we're going with our music. We've been off for about a month and a half and we've been writing a bit and so far what I've heard from myself and Justin and a little bit of JC is that it is gonna be a little bit, ya know, more rocky a little bit, and we'll need to play instruments a little bit, but it all depends on our show and what it's exactly like and ya know, where we feel like we think our music's gonna go. We've done it before, played in a show, and that's how we all write so we could do it.

T: What instrument do you play?

C: Guitar and keyboard not very well.

1 T: You can pass on a guitar?

C: Yah, I could pass. I can fake it. I could lip play

T: Now who's your mortal enemy in the industry? You guys are you at war with anybody? Because I understand that you and Eminem have a fued going on.

C: I think Eminem likes us the most. He's got a soft spot in his heart for us.

T: Have you ever met him?

C: We've done a couple shows with him but he's never really.. I dunno not really.

T: You guys played with him before.. back when he was not doing so well?

C: We did a show with him back when he first came out with Slim Shady in Cancun. We did like an MTV show. He played at the same show, ya know, it's not like we did a double bill with Eminem. He seemed like a nice guy. We didn't really get a chance to talk to him, but he seems cool. I really respect his music and I love what he does. It's funny because I was really excited for his new album to come out, ya know I heard he was coming out with a new one and then the next thing I know he's talking about me in it. Really, as bad as it is, I took it as a compliment because I'm a fan of his and now I'm mortalized in the song.

T: Did someone have to tell you that or did you just pick up the record and find out for yourself?

C: No someone had to told me.. someone had to tell me.. Someone had to told me? Yah I know as soon as it came out (people in the back were making fun of him) They've been making of me since the moment I got here so it doesn't really matter. No, it was out on the internet or something and I had all these people calling me up telling me about it and I just thought 'Oh he talks about us every album' and they were like 'No he talked about you' and I was like 'Oh yah, I guess he did'.

T: I'm surprised 'cuz you're a bigger guy than I thought. I thought you were a lot smaller.

C: Nope, I'm a big fellow. I'm gonna hit some out of the park right here.

T: How old are you?

C: 30

T: 30.. Are you the oldest?

C: Yah, I'm the grandfather of the group.. That's another reason we ain't gonna be dancin for much longer.

T: What kind of music do you listen to? 'Cuz you're too old to listen to NSync.

C: I enjoy the music that we do 'cuz you know we write it.

T: Well there comes a time where kids are like 'ahh I'm too old for that now.'

C: Right but that's because there's an image thing too but I'm not stuck with an image because it's me. I mean, I don't put posters of me up in my house. It's my music, it's what I do, it's not really what I listen to. I've got everything. I just got the Rancid album, I'm listening to this new group out, called Good Charlotte, not sure if you've heard of them It's a lot of that pop-punk stuff. I've always been a Sex Pistols and I like a lot of punk music, but I like a lot of rock. You know, I like a lot of guitars and just playing stuff.

T: How weirded out were you, initially, when the success came your way? Cuz you were what, mid 20's?

C: I was 23 when it all happend, and it was kind of weird, especially out in Europe having all these 12/14 year old little girls screaming for me. I was just like 'man I'm 23 years old, I don't want all these little girls screaming for me. Where's the 23 year old girls screaming for me?'

T: Now you're 30 and it's still happening.

C: Well now I'm 30 and I've just, ya know, grown accustomed to it for the last 8 years and it's just like, I dunno, you just roll with it. I'm happy we're still successful and I'm happy we're still working.

T: It's a good gig if you can get it.

C: It is a real good gig, I'm really happy with where we're at. We definitely have to reinvent ourselves. I'm tired of the image that we have. It's not really anybody's fault, I don't like the lack of respect, ya know, people don't like us because of what they think and not who we are. We have fun, we party, we're fun guys to hang out with. We enjoy music, we enjoy being best friends, and who wouldn't want to be in our situation?

T: But you sort of knew going into it that you were appealing to a certain sex of society and it's gonna be hard to shake that.

C: Yah, kind of. When we started we were doing all a capella stuff and we were looking up to groups like Boyz II Men and As Yet, a lot of the musica type groups. And they weren't the type that had screaming girls at their shows and stuff like that, so it wasn't really something we expected. And we remember the New Kids on the Block and that was something, to us, completely different because they were an image and they were all about being the New Kids and we had fun writing and making music and performing. And all of our favorite moments in our career are things like the records we sold or the songs we put out, or what exactly, where stylistic we were going.

T: If you never had to sell another record or never had to go on tour again, you wouldn't have to right?

C: Oh yah right.

T: But you just said, you have to be set.

C: We're set, we're definitely set, but we enjoy it. We keep ourselves in check every day and we enjoy, ya know, being musicians. And I enjoy being able to fill out some paperwork and saying, ya know, what's your occupation, I can say musician. You know, I don't have to say (says something.. can't really understand him).

T: Chris Kirkpatrick of NSync.. good luck.
